Optimizing the production capacity of fish feed production lines should focus on "improving extrusion efficiency, reducing cooling time, and ensuring feed water resistance." Considering the characteristics of fish feed, such as "different buoyancy/sinkability requirements and high water resistance requirements," the continuous production capacity of the production line can be improved through equipment upgrades and process adjustments, while ensuring feed quality, to meet the feed needs of large-scale fish farming.

 

This is reflected in three aspects

 

First, upgrade the core components of the extruder to improve extrusion efficiency. The extruder is crucial for fish feed production; aging components lead to slow production speed and unstable extrusion. Optimization methods include: 1) replacing the ordinary screw in the extruder with a twin-screw extruder. Twin-screw extruders more thoroughly compress and mix raw materials, increasing the extrusion speed by 30% compared to a single-screw extruder, and providing more stable extrusion. The floating rate of floating fish feed increased from 90% to 98%. 2) adding heating elements to the outside of the extruder barrel ensures more uniform barrel temperature, preventing localized low temperatures that could lead to insufficient extrusion and reducing rework. After upgrading, one feed mill saw its extruder's hourly output increase from 700 kg to 910 kg, and the rate of substandard pellets decreased from 12% to 5%, significantly improving production capacity.

 

 

Second, optimize the cooling process to shorten cooling time. Fish feed is hot immediately after extrusion (80-90℃) and needs to be cooled to room temperature before packaging. Slow cooling can cause pellet accumulation, affecting subsequent production. Optimization methods include: First, replacing ordinary coolers with counter-flow coolers. Cold air blows upwards from the bottom, while the pellets fall downwards from the top, ensuring full contact between the air and pellets and reducing cooling time from 15 minutes to 8 minutes. Second, installing temperature sensors at the cooler outlet to monitor pellet temperature in real time. Once the temperature reaches the target level, the system automatically feeds the pellets, eliminating the need for manual intervention and saving waiting time. After optimization, one feed mill was able to process an additional 500 kg of pellets per hour in the cooling process, increasing daily output by 1.2 tons.

 

 

Third, optimizing the raw material ratio and humidity reduces production problems. Inappropriate moisture and ratio of fish feed raw materials can lead to clogged extruders and poor pellet water resistance. Optimization methods include: First, using a hygrometer to monitor the moisture content of raw materials during mixing, controlling it to 16%-18% (the optimal extrusion moisture content for fish feed). This prevents excessive moisture from causing blockages and excessive moisture from causing loose pellets. Second, adjusting the raw material ratio according to the fish species. For example, when producing floating fish feed, appropriately increasing the proportion of bran improves extrusion and reduces rework due to insufficient extrusion. After optimization, one feed mill reduced the number of times its extruder blocked feed from 4 times a day to 1 time a day, and improved the pellet water resistance from 2 minutes to 4 minutes, ensuring both quality and increased production efficiency.
